Jessa and Brandon from Montana chose to do their Hong Kong engagement session in places that were very quintessentially Hong Kong. I never knew that Kowloon Park could actually turn out like this! I also loved shooting in Sheung Wan, where old antique stores still survive next to the trendiest boutiques and cafes. So to all my future clients, please keep suggesting new places for me to shoot at!

Hong Kong Picnic Engagement Session: Joanne & Jamie

Phuket Wedding at Andara Resort & Villas: Connie & Ken

Destination weddings are amazing for so many reasons. For me as a photographer, the most important one is that I can tell that every guest present truly wants to be there and is enjoying every part of the wedding. The atmosphere is always tranquil and relaxed until the later part of the day, when everybody starts to go crazy! So let me bring you one of the most enjoyable weddings I’ve shot – Connie and Ken’s Phuket Wedding!

The flower girl and boy, as well as the bridesmaids, getting ready to torture the groomsmen! Well, you have to utilise that amazing infinity pool, right?

Loved the coral, peach and white theme, which matched the surrounds of the resort perfectly.

Imagine getting married with a view like this!

Thoughtful wedding favours for the tropical climate in Phuket!

Snapshots of the march-in still make me laugh!

Then the groomsmen started taking over the live band…

The wedding finished with fireworks and lanterns at the beach which were a big hit!

Bangkok Engagement Session on Film: Stephanie & Derek

It’s my pleasure to bring you this delightful Bangkok engagement session featuring Stephanie and Derek. Stephanie is a friend from primary school so when she asked me to photograph her engagement session, I was extremely excited! So off we went to Bangkok! It’s always a challenge to shoot for clients who trust me completely, because it means that I get all the freedom to direct and shoot as I like. I hope you’ll all agree that all the effort that went into planning the outfits, props, makeup and hair was well worth it.

We even set up a little picnic on the lawn with anything we could get our hands on! I think it worked out well!

The we moved indoors to make use of the resort’s beautiful Tuscan-themed setting and magical diffused light.

Hong Kong Engagement Photography Session on Film: Amy & Arthur

I loved working with these clients, who came all the way from Singapore and Toronto respectively. There was no overwhelming styling or props, but everything was planned perfectly with just enough detail for a simple and meaningful engagement session. This part of the shoot with a more vintage style was done entirely on film. The second part will be posted separately, so stay tuned!

Destination Wedding at Alila Villas Uluwatu, Bali: Joyce & Raymond

This is my very first experience of a destination wedding, and it wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that I really fell in love. I had never enjoyed a wedding so completely. Alila Villas Uluwatu was like a dream, and its simple elegance made it a perfect fit for Joyce and Raymond. I couldn’t think of a better way to thank them than to capture some memorable moments of the day.

All shots taken during the day were taken on film and the dreamy, pastel tones were just perfect for this dream-like affair.

Tasteful as always, Joyce.

The splash of green was a perfect match for this tropical wedding.

Of course, a Hong Kong wedding would not be complete without torturing the groom and groomsmen.

The ceremony was held at the Sunset Cabana, which was perched on a cliff, with at 180-degree view of the ocean. *sigh*

The reception was held next to the pool at their private villa.

Invitations designed and watercolour painted by the artistic bride herself.

The very thoughtful favours which turned out to be very useful in the Balinese sun and heat.

Yeah, the groom and groomsmen went a bit crazy, and… I should probably leave it at that.

As you can see, everyone had a rocking time! What a great end to the perfect wedding!

Propel Workshop: Saddlerock Ranch Malibu Wedding

Here comes the long-awaited post on the stunning Saddlerock Ranch Malibu wedding set up at Propel, a 2-day workshop taught by Caroline Tran. Everything was impeccable, the venue, the florals, the jewellery… It’s always been my dream to be able to shoot ranch weddings like this! For those who are interested, I made the leap of faith to shoot film here. So all of these images were shot on film. To me it was a big challenge but it really helped me to learn to trust myself and to really think before I shoot. I can truly say that the workshop made me understand a lot of my own weaknesses as a photographer and how to improve on them whether I’m shooting digitally or on film.

So go ahead and soak in the gorgeous details of this wedding! I’ve been lucky enough to be featured on Utterly Engaged, Ruffled Blog and 100 Layer Cake!

The zebra striped cushions and this gorgeous wild bouquet were perfect touches for this safari-themed wedding.

Editorial: Romantic Vintage Inspired Bridal Shoot

It was with a combination of luck, chance, dreams and hard work that this vintage inspired bridal shoot materialised. I have always wanted to shoot something very soft, pastel, romantic and feminine. I thought it was by chance that I stumbled upon Mrs Vintage‘s amazing vintage lace bridal gowns and head pieces. But I think it was actually destiny when, shortly after, Joyce of J.F. Floral Couture contacted me and asked if we could work together. Then I was absolutely thrilled to have the talented Kalo of Kalo Make Art on board to do our stationery, because I’m a huge fan of her beautiful illustrations (and cute personality!). Sandra of Simply Peachy then worked her magic and got Mini Chan Makeup and Ellermann Design, and Homemade HK involved. I’m sure you’ll all agree that she also styled this shoot to *peachy* perfection!

We wanted to capture the essence of Spring and romance so we worked in that direction in the styling and used vintage lace, peaches, roses and succulents for the perfect palette. I knew from the beginning that the softness and pastel tones of film would complement our vision perfectly, so I shot film only. Film rocks!

The lace details on the gown is simply stunning! That capelet is to-die-for! Make your enquires with Mrs Vintage soon, because a gem like this will be snapped up in no time!

I adore this statement head piece, lovingly hand made by Mrs Vintage herself.

Joyce of J.F. Floral Couture is truly an artist. I could shoot her work all day long.

These boutonnieres are so delicate and beautiful! And succulents are great for HK weddings that tend to run from way early in the morning to midnight!

The up-side to using peaches in the shoot was that it gave us the perfect soft yellow, pink and red tones, but the down-side is that Sandra and I had to eat peaches only for a week.

Mini peach cakes with which chocolate by Homemade HK. I just learned that she runs private dinners! So check out her website for more details.

Hong Kong Maternity Photography Session at Home: Agnes & Dragoon

Get ready to feast on this maternity photography session at home with the most gorgeous DIY details! It was a very intimate experience to be able to witness and capture the beautiful sense of anticipation of this expecting mum and dad. I’ve grown very fond of maternity sessions for this reason. Dads always just melt when they look at the baby bump and mums are always positively radiant! Mums tend to complain that they look fat and ugly, but wouldn’t you agree that Agnes is absolutely glowing in these photos?

Check out this amazing set-up all prepared by Agnes herself. You can tell that this little baby girl is going to be totally spoilt!

Propel Workshop Part I – Trailer Park Malibu Engagement Session: Lauren & Chad

Check out this adorable Malibu engagement session at the Propel Workshop I attended earlier in L.A.! I’ve been wanting to share this with you for a while, but had to wait until it’s published. Now you can see our workshop featured on Green Wedding Shoes here. This perfectly styled session was a dream to shoot. It came complete with a yellow VW van, a gorgeous picnic, and even a row boat with flowers!

This workshop was where I took a big leap of faith to shoot film, so these are a mixture of film and digital images. By the second day, I felt quite comfortable shooting all film, so you will see an all film post from me later on part III of the workshop. For me, this workshop was really an introspective journey through which I found a lot of weaknesses in myself as a photographer. But I came back determined to confront and overcome them. And I hope that, in my journey of photography, I will continuously remind myself to do that.
